The state of some road networks in the Regional Capital (Bolgatanga) was so deplorable that there was increase in travel time as well as Vehicle Operating Cost for road users. There was also a significant issue with dust generation/ environmental pollution with its associated health implications. Access to schools and market places was increasingly becoming difficult for children and women respectively hence the need to package selected roads for this project. The selected roads referred to are:
– Library Road
– Tanzui Road
– Yarigabisi Road
– ExTee Road
– Sanat Minat Road
– Ojam Road
The rehabilitation of these roads is mainly to reduce travel time, vehicle operating cost and reduce environmental pollution and safety for all road users. The rehabilitation will also improve mobility and road condition mix of the region.
The first phase of the project consisted of the construction a 170m two lane dual carriageway viaduct from the East to West direction (from Graphic Road towards Busia Road). This was completed in November 2020 and has improved traffic flow on the East-West direction considerably at the intersection.
The second phase involves the construction of a 389m long viaduct from north to the south direction (i.e., Kwame Nkrumah Circle towards Korle Bu Teaching Hospital).
This when completed will improve traffic flow even further at the intersection

Background of Project
The Kassena Nankana Municipal Assembly created a new market in an attempt to decongest the existing one and had relocated some of the traders to the new market. However, transportation of people and goods to the new location was proving difficult due to the poor condition of the road network. The complaints from the market women and the resistance to use the new market by some of the women compel the Kasena Nankana Municipal Assembly to inform the Regional Office of DUR to prioritize the upgrading of the roads connecting to the New Market hence this project.
This project seeks to upgrade the road to the Navrongo New Market as well as the Catholic Mission link road in order to provide more accesses to the market, enhance mobility and improve on the quality of life of the citizenry. This was to satisfy the market women for high patronage of their goods and services

The C. K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (formerly the Navrongo campus of University for Development Studies) one of the major tertiary institutions in the Upper East Region is without paved roads. This situation creates a lot of dust, pollutes the environment making academic work very difficult. It also allows erosion to take place quickly on the gravel and earth roads leaving the roads with lots of defects. Challenges with drainage is a major issue as there were no good drains to discharge runoffs and waste water. The campus roads were previously awarded by one of our sister agencies but the quality of sections of drains constructed were very poor.
This project seeks to partially construct the roads on the entire campus to improve mobility, safety, reduce dust pollution and enhance the quality of life on campus.
