1. Dualisation of Kansawurodo Bypass (8.5km)

The Kansawurodo Bypass is a major arterial road in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly area that links the Takoradi – Cape coast highway to the Takoradi – Agona highway. It provides a bypass to the Agona-Tarkwa road without having to go through the CBD of Takoradi. The Mapees – Ntankoful link, Diabene link and upgrading of some selected critical arterial and collector roads at Anaji have complemented this project as these roads have enhanced connectivity within the metropolis. The state of roads connecting the bypass are fair.

  • Reduce congestion and the average travel time on the Takoradi – Cape coast highway and the Takoradi – Agona highway.
  • Enhance connectivity in the Greater Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly areas.
  • 8.5km dual carriageway with median, walkways, horticultural landscape, lay-bys.
  • Improvement to 12 existing junctions through the installation of traffic signals.

2. Upgrading of Axim Town Roads (5.7km)

This project is located in the Nzema East Municipal Assembly. This projects aims at upgrading some local roads within the municipality which are in a very deplorable state from gravel to asphalt binder course to make these roads motorable. Some of the captured roads to be upgraded are Fisheries road, Otupaye road, Tufuhene road, Abrokwaw lane, Gyaduabo lane, Mogsinor road and Hospital back road. Some of the roads connecting our captured roads are fair whiles others are in bad condition.

3. Rehabilitation of Selected Roads in Takoradi Lot 1 (7.5km)

This project is located in the Sekondi – Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly Area. This project aims at rehabilitating some local roads within the metropolis which are in a very deplorable state from gravel road to asphalt binder course. Some of the targeted roads to be rehabilitated are Columbia Road, Hummingbird road, Osprey lane, 31st December road, Anaji Davis annex road and Vienna beach roads. The shipper’s council road and Axim Road which are being developed by Viabuild Africa NV under “Design and construction of selected roads in Sekondi and Takoradi” will complement the Vienna beach roads to enhance connectivity in the metropolis.

  • Improve local tourism along the beach enclave of Takoradi.

4. Upgrading of Selected Roads in Essikado-Ketan Sub-Metropolitan Area Lot 1 (6.52km)

This project is located within the Sekondi – Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly Area. The roads under this project are the Kansaworodo – Mampong road and the KNUST Institute of Distant Learning campus (IDL) road which are to be upgraded from gravel to asphalt binder course. The Kansaworodo bypass which is in a good condition links this project to Mampong and its environs.

  • Reduce congestion and the average travel time on the Kansaworodo – Mampong road.
  • Improve the quality of life of the citizenry.
  • Provide good road to the KNUST IDL center at Mampong.

5. Upgrading of Selected Roads in Essikado-Ketan Sub-Metropolitan Area Lot 2 (8.15km)

This project is located within the Sekondi – Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly Area. The roads under this project are Nkroful – Agric – Diabene road, Mpintsin loop, BU road and Essikado – Kojokrom road which are to be upgraded from gravel roads to asphalt binder course. The Kansaworodo bypass complements the Nkroful – Agric – Diabene road as it enhances connectivity to the N1. Also, the Sekondi road that is being dualized by Viabuild Africa NV under “Design and construction of selected roads in Sekondi and Takoradi” will complement the Essikado – Kojokrom road to enhance connectivity in the metropolis. The roads linking the captured roads under this project are good.

6. Emergency Asphaltic Overlay of Selected Arterial and Collector Roads in Takoradi Lot 1 (11.39km)

This project is located in the Sekondi – Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly Area. Some of the roads under this project which have been overlaid with asphalt are Chapel Hill area roads, Takoradi quarters, Nkontompo, Kokompe, New Takoradi road and Beach road area roads. The Sekondi and Axim roads which are being dualized by Viabuild under “Design and construction of selected roads in Sekondi and Takoradi” will complement the Kokompe road, Nkontompo road, Beach road area roads and New Takoradi road to enhance connectivity in the metropolis. The state of the roads connecting the captured roads under this project are fair.

8. Upgrading of Selected Arterial and Collector Roads in Sekondi (10.22km)

This project is located in the Sekondi – Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly Area. The project aims at upgrading some arterial and collector roads within the metropolis which are in a very deplorable state and make them motorable for motorists. Some of the roads which are being upgraded from earth roads to asphalt binder course roads are Kweikuma roads, Sekondi bakekyir road, pariscoa road, Sekondi kokompe road, Kwesi budu road, Adiembra police station road etc. The state of roads connecting the captured roads under this project are fair.

This project is located in the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly Area. Some of the captured roads under this project which have been overlaid with asphalt are the Race course road, Adientem – mpatado road, mount zion road, latter rain link road, Du-paul road, Davis street, Anaji police station road and Effiakuma area roads. The state of roads connecting the captured roads under this project are in fair condition.

10. Upgrading of Selected Roads in Kojokrom in Essikado-Ketan Sub-Metropolitan area (7.98km)

This project is located in the Sekondi – Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly Area. Some critical collectors and local roads under this project are Nana Gordon street, BU-ketan link, Jerusalem town road, Arhinkofi road, Kojokrom roman ridge road etc. This project will upgrade these roads which are in a very deplorable state from earth roads to asphalt binder course to make these roads motorable and open up the new development areas within the metropolis. The Nana Gordon street has been completed. The completion of the Sekondi road under “Design and construction of selected roads in sekondi and Takoradi” will complement the Nana Gordon street by enhancing connectivity within the metropolis. The state of roads connecting most of the project roads are in fair condition.

Some critical collectors and local roads under this project are Ntankoful palace roads, Ntankoful zongo road, Diabenekrom roads, Twabewu roads etc. This project will upgrade these roads which are in a very deplorable state from earth roads to asphalt binder course to make these roads motorable for motorists. The state of roads connecting most of the project roads are in fair condition.

12. Construction of Appiete Town Roads (3.78km)

This project is located in the Prestea Huni Valley Municipal Assembly Area. Local roads within the Appiete town are to be upgraded from gravel to surface dressed roads after the unfortunate explosion in the area in 2022 that caused major devastation of roads and other structures. The project will provide a good road link in the town. The Asankragua−Bogoso highway will complement this project.

Design and Construction of Selected Roads in Sekondi – Takoradi (25km)

This project is being implemented to address road transport infrastructure challenges within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis. Under the project, DUR intends to widen the roads that provide direct linkages between Sekondi and Takoradi and other selected roads to improve access to the Takoradi Port. 

The government of Ghana has obtained a credit from Belfius Bank SA/NV and KBC Bank Belgium towards the cost of the project and service.

To improve quality of life of the citizenry and enhance economic activity at the port.

The Project Involves the construction of 21km of urban roads including related footbridges, bridge over the Butua Lagoon and a railway line.

The Department of Urban Roads was allocated ten (10) components of the fifty (50) nos. There are three of them in the Western Region of Ghana.

The project aims to provide connectivity of travel to commuters and replace old bridges in the selected area
