The Department of Urban Roads is managed by the Director and his three Deputies in charge of Planning and Development, Maintenance and Operations, Finance and Administration.

The DUR operates through Regional Offices in all the regions of Ghana. The DUR through the Regional Offices has oversight responsibility for works in about one hundred and thirty-seven (136) assembly areas.

MAJOR PROJECTS ONGOING
1. KUMASI ROADS AND DRAINAGE EXTENSION PROJECT
The project is being funded by Agencę Française de’Developpment and is in three main components:
- The expansion of existing Lake Road (single carriageway) into a dual carriageway from Coca-Cola Bottling Company area km2+700 to km5+200; a further extension to Dompoase Junction and thence to the new Terminal at Dompoase.
- The extension of Sissai drain by 2km;
- Construction of 3 No. Reinforced concrete bridges across the Sissai River.
- Construction of Chirapatere Terminal – Commissioned

2. LA BEACH ROAD COMPLETION PROJECT
The project seeks to improve the capacity along the Accra Tema Beach Road and ensure the safety of commuters and other road users. This project would go through communities like Osu, La, Teshie, Nungua, Tema Community and Sakumono.

3. CONSTRUCTION OF OBETSEBI LAMPTEY INTERCHANGE PH. 2
This project generally seeks to reduce congestion around the Obetsebi roundabout and facilitate the free movement of goods and people. The project also seeks to solve the perennial flooding within the project location by upgrading the existing drainage structures. Works have commenced on the Kaneshie Storm Drain while awaiting approval to commence construction.

4. RECONSTRUCTION OF SUNYANI ROAD IN KUMASI – PHASE II
The project is part of the Department’s Arterial Roads Development Programme. It is a continuation of the 1st Phase and this project involves the following;
- Widening of the road from Abuakwa-Apatrapa
- Widening of road from Centre of National Culture to Santasi Roundabout
- Construction of Interchange at Bekwai Roundabout

5. TAMALE INTERCHANGE
The Tamale interchange is about one kilometre long and links the Kumasi road through the Point 7 road, the Central Taxi Rank, Central Market intersection with the Melcom Road and Bolgatanga Road. The project seeks to improve travel times and reducing conflicts among the various modes of transport on the road and other vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists.

6. DUALIZATION OF HO MAIN ROAD (SOKODE GBORGAME-CIVIC CENTRE)
The project is being executed to accommodate the anticipated high traffic volume that is expected within the volta Region in the near future. The project consists of the dualization of the main road into Ho from Sokode Gborgame and traffic management of existing roads within the city centre.

7. UPGRADING OF SPINTEX ROAD 1
The project is part of the Accra East Corridor and it seeks to create an alternative to the existing Spintex Road which has high volumes of traffic during peak hours. This project when completed would reduce travel time considerable within the Accra East Corridor.
